Woman at Home RecyclingNew Curbside Recycling Program:

At its October 2008 meeting, the ECUA Board voted to implement a voluntary recycling program, scheduled to begin the week of January 1, 2009.  The new program, which will require customers to sign-up in order to participate, is simple and cost effective, and will be available to all 62,500 ECUA residential sanitation customers and residents located in the current Allied Waste, Inc. service area. Customers who choose to recycle will receive one household waste pick-up per week and one pick-up of recyclables each week. The cost for the two collections will be approximately $18.00, (a final rate resolution will be voted on by the ECUA Board at its December 2008 meeting).  This will be a reduction to the current rate of $19.62 for two household waste pick-ups and no recycling service.  Yard trash and bulky waste services will continue under this new program according to current ECUA guidelines.  You may sign up for curbside recycling by calling Customer Service at 476-0480, or by filling in the sign-up form listed below and mailing it to ECUA.

Escambia County Drop Off ContainerRecycling

The ECUA encourages its customers to make use of the recycling drop-off sites owned and operated by Escambia County to recycle cardboard moving boxes, as well as all other recyclable items accepted at the sites. Recycling prevents these materials from being disposed of in the landfill and saves energy.

If an ECUA customer is unable to take these materials to the drop-off recycling centers, the ECUA will provide curbside collection at no additional charge. Customers may call ECUA Customer Service at 476-0480 for assistance. However, until the ECUA Recycling Program begins (estimated start date is currently Jan. 2009), these materials collected by the ECUA will not be recycled, as they are commingled with other waste, and disposed of in the landfill.

The ECUA does not operate the drop-off sites. Any questions or comments regarding these centers should be directed to the Escambia County Department of Solid Waste at 850-937-2160.
